THE SOCIETY MEMBERS GOLF SECTION

As you would expect from a society representing the home of golf we offer, to all members, the chance to come and enjoy playing golf. You may also expect that as the representatives of the home of Golf we would be very serious about our Golf but alas no, our aim is to have fun.

The Golf players that have experienced a day oot on the course with us will tell you that it is a great opportunity to enjoy, not only trying to play the game, but also having a great laugh and a chance to speak as we would at home with our friends. Our associate members take it as an opportunity to learn more about Scottish sporting culture and our colorful language.

It’s not unusual, as you are about to hit your first shot to hear “don’t worry yoursel naebody’s watchin”.
And after your shot you may hear “so you are only here for the beer then” or “at least its better than your last shot” and particularly aimed at good golfers “I thought you said you were good”.

We encourage all members, including associate members, to join us, no matter if you are a beginner or an expert, during our add-hoc games (known as “Bounce Games”). To ensure we do not interfere with the members more serious game with other more formal Golf Clubs  we do not have any fixed dates but will send out a notice and ask who wants to come along for a game on e.g. 13th March. If you wish to come you let us know and we arrange the T-Times.

The après Golf is a chance to discuss each others performance in a warm and friendly way over some food and a few beers – be prepared to put some cash in the kitty (Wad of cash to pay the bill).

We do play to the rules of Golf – as far as possible – but have added the following:

  1. Don’t throw your empty beer cans on the course
  2. If you bring a flask containing alcohol you must share
  3. Nae temper tantrums
  4. Be nice to the caddies – remember they do not understand a word we are saying and probably bemused by all the laughter
  5. Nae shouting abuse at other Scottish Golfers – It is OK to tell them what you think in a moderate voice.
  6. Kilts are not accepted dress code on Thai Golf Courses – Surprising when you see Big Colins Very Bright attire.

Competitions

We participate in three competitions during the year:

  1. The  St.Andrews Society Open (“THE HAGGIS BASH”)
  2. The Celtic cup – Scotland v Ireland
  3. The Inter-societies Golf Competition

In addition some of us will get together as a team to participate in charity golf competitions.

All society members will receive notifications of upcoming bounce games and events and details also posted on the Socities web page.

Your participation would be most welcome
